EDITORS COMMENTS
This image showcases a Standing Chinese Lion from the Late 19th century, an exquisite piece of unknown origin that hails from Asia, specifically China or Japan. The lion, a symbol of power and protection in Chinese and Japanese culture, is depicted in full regal splendor, standing proudly with its mane of thick, curly fur and piercing, fierce gaze. The lion's body is crafted from porcelain with a green-tinged glaze, giving it an ethereal, otherworldly appearance. The intricate details of the lion's fur, eyes, and mouth are accentuated in this close-up shot, revealing the skillful hand of the unknown artist who brought this majestic creature to life. The lion's posture exudes a sense of repulsion and avoidance, as if it is preparing to ward off any potential threats. This concept of the lion as a guardian and protector is a common theme in Asian art and heritage, and this piece is no exception. The Standing Chinese Lion is a beautiful example of Hirado Mikawachi Ware, a type of porcelain that originated in the Hirado region of Japan during the 16th century. This style of porcelain is characterized by its delicate, intricate designs and vibrant colors, making it a highly sought-after collectible item. This stunning piece of art is currently housed in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), where it continues to inspire and captivate visitors from around the world. The mystery surrounding its creator only adds to its allure, making it a true treasure of the 19th century Asian art world.
