Marks and Spencer, 23 New Street, Huddersfield, Kirklees, West Yorkshire. The front elevations of the similarly designed Burton and Marks and Spencer stores at 17-23 New Street.
Marks and Spencer moved from an existing site in Huddersfield to the former Burton premises at 19-23 New street in 1934. Burton has acquired the corner site, at 17 New Street, and built a smaller store of an almost identical design. The Burton store had closed by 2008 and the premises was occupied by Vision Express. The Marks and Spencer closed in 2019

Framed and mounted 9x7 print. Professionally handmade full timber moulded frames are finished off with framers tape and come with a hanging solution on the back. Outer dimensions are 13.5x11.5 inches (34x29cm). Quality timber frame frame moulding (20mm wide and 30mm deep) with frame colours in your choice of black, white, or raw oak and a choice of black or white card mounts. Frames have a perspex front providing a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish which is easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

This print captures the iconic Marks and Spencer store in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. Situated on New Street, this department store has been a beloved fixture of the town for decades. The image showcases the front elevations of both Marks and Spencer and Burton stores, which were designed with striking similarities. In 1934, Marks and Spencer made a significant move from their previous location to occupy the former Burton premises at 19-23 New Street. Meanwhile, Burton acquired the corner site at 17 New Street and constructed a smaller yet equally impressive store in almost identical design. These two buildings became synonymous with classicism and neo-classical architecture. Over time, changes occurred within these historic structures. By 2008, Burton had closed its doors while Vision Express took over its premises. Similarly, after serving as a retail haven for generations of shoppers, Marks and Spencer bid farewell to Huddersfield in 2019.
