Framed and mounted 9x7 print. Professionally handmade full timber moulded frames are finished off with framers tape and come with a hanging solution on the back. Outer dimensions are 13.5x11.5 inches (34x29cm). Quality timber frame frame moulding (20mm wide and 30mm deep) with frame colours in your choice of black, white, or raw oak and a choice of black or white card mounts. Frames have a perspex front providing a virtually unbreakable glass-like finish which is easily cleaned with a damp cloth.

This striking portrait captures Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl of Lytton (1831-1891), during his tenure as Viceroy of India from 1875 to 1880. Bulwer-Lytton, a prominent British statesman and writer, was appointed to the position at the age of 44, making him one of the youngest Viceroys in history. His time in India was marked by ambitious plans to modernize the country and strengthen British rule, but ultimately ended in failure with the outbreak of the Second Afghan War in 1878. In this photograph, Bulwer-Lytton is depicted wearing the insignia of the Order of the Star of India, a collar adorned with diamonds and rubies, around his neck. His beard and curls are neatly groomed, giving him a distinguished appearance. The year is believed to be around 1875, just before the events that led to the war. Bulwer-Lytton's efforts to maintain peace in Afghanistan were unsuccessful, as tensions between the British and Afghan leaders continued to escalate. Despite his diplomatic efforts, the situation deteriorated, leading to the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the Second Afghan War. The conflict lasted for several years and resulted in significant loss of life and resources for both the British and the Afghan people. Despite the failure to avert the war, Bulwer-Lytton's legacy in India is complex and multifaceted. His modernization efforts led to the construction of important infrastructure projects, including the completion of the Grand Trunk Road and the expansion of the Indian railways. However, his policies also contributed to the growing unrest and instability that would ultimately lead to India's independence from British rule.
