EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken in 1884, showcases Thomas Firr, the esteemed huntsman of the renowned Quorn Hunt in England. Foxhunting, a traditional English pastime, has a rich history that dates back centuries, and the Quorn Hunt is one of the oldest and most prestigious foxhounds packs in the country. Thomas Firr, dressed in the classic attire of a huntsman, stands proudly with his hounds at his feet. His expression conveys a sense of determination and focus as he gazes intently into the distance, likely following the scent of a fox. The hounds, eager and alert, mirror his intensity, their ears perked up and eyes fixed on the horizon. The rolling English countryside stretches out behind them, dotted with trees and hedgerows, creating a picturesque backdrop for this quintessential scene. The golden autumn leaves add a touch of warmth and charm to the image, while the crisp, cool air of the English autumn can almost be felt through the photograph. Foxhunting was a social activity that brought together the landed gentry, farmers, and local villagers. The hunt provided an opportunity for community bonding, as well as a means of controlling the fox population, which was seen as a threat to livestock. The tradition of foxhunting has faced controversy and criticism in modern times, but this photograph serves as a reminder of its historical significance and the deep connection between the English people and their land. Thomas Firr, as the huntsman, played a crucial role in the Quorn Hunt. He was responsible for leading the hounds and ensuring that the hunt was conducted safely and effectively. His dedication and expertise were essential to the success of the hunt and the enjoyment of its participants. This photograph captures a moment in time, preserving the legacy of Thomas Firr and the Quorn Hunt for future generations to appreciate and learn from.

Icarus. In the Greek legend Daedalus, Icaruss father, has built wings made of feathers and wax so they can escape from the island of Crete where they are imprisoned.
