EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures Ivor Novello in his prime, as he graced the silver screen in the 1928 British silent film, "The Constant Nymph." Directed by Basil Dean and Adrian Brunel, this romantic drama marked a significant moment in Novello's illustrious career. Novello, born in 1893 in Islington, London, was a versatile artist who excelled in various aspects of the entertainment industry. He was an accomplished actor, singer, composer, and playwright. In "The Constant Nymph," he starred as Terence, a musician who falls in love with the younger sister of his deceased friend. The film, based on the novel by Margaret Kennedy, was produced at the Gainsborough Pictures studio during the late 1920s, a time when the jazz age was in full swing. Novello's charm and charisma shine through in this image, as he dons a dapper suit and holds a press kit, exuding an air of sophistication and confidence. Despite the black-and-white stillness of the photograph, one can sense the passion and intensity that Novello brought to his role on the set. "The Constant Nymph" was a critical and commercial success, cementing Novello's place as a leading figure in British cinema of the 1920s.
