EDITORS COMMENTS
This vintage photograph showcases the Foster-Wikner Wicko G-AFKS (msn 6), a remarkable aircraft manufactured by Foster-Wikner Aircraft Company in 1939. Registered on January 5, 1939, G-AFKS was initially used by Nash Aircraft Sales Ltd. as a demonstrator. At one point in its history, this aircraft was equipped with skis, making it a versatile machine for various weather conditions. The Wicko G-AFKS, like most of its kind, was eventually impressed into the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II, where it was given the designation HM574 and nicknamed "Foster-Wikner Warferry." Despite surviving the war, this historic aircraft met its end in 1946 when it was unfortunately scrapped at Eastleigh. The Foster-Wikner Wicko was a single-engine, low-wing monoplane designed for the civilian market. Its sleek design and advanced features made it a popular choice among pilots. The aircraft's impressive performance and versatility were showcased through its use as a demonstrator by Nash Aircraft Sales Ltd. before being conscripted for military service. This photograph captures a significant moment in aviation history, highlighting the Foster-Wikner Wicko G-AFKS's unique role as both a civilian demonstrator and a military aircraft during a time of great change and necessity.
