Sir Philip Walhouse Chetwode, 1st Baron Chetwode, GCBA, OM, GCSI, KCMG, DSO (1869-1950), is depicted in this striking photograph from the year 1910. The British military figure is seen here in his full colonial uniform as a colonel in the 19th Hussars. With a confident and resolute expression, Chetwode holds a cigarette in his right hand, adding an air of nonchalant sophistication to his regal appearance. Born into the noble Chetwode family, the 7th Baronet of Oakley, Chetwode's military career began in the late 19th century. He served in various capacities in the British Army, including in the Second Boer War and the First World War, where he rose to the rank of Field Marshal. Chetwode's military accomplishments earned him numerous accolades, including the Order of Merit, the Order of the Star of India, the Order of the Bath, and the Distinguished Service Order. He was also created a Baron in 1919, further solidifying his place in British history.
