EDITORS COMMENTS
This beautiful Violet Day Fund silver-topped Pounce Pot is a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the First World War. The pot, dating back to the WWI era, features a silver top with the Birmingham 1904 mark, intricately engraved with violets and the inscription "Violet Day 1914." The glass body of the pot is adorned with more engravings of violets, adding to its elegant design. The pot comes with a Violet Day Remembrance badge, dated 1919, which was given as a token of appreciation for support during the war efforts. The badge is accompanied by a spray of violets and a label that reads "Star and Garter Home, Reading - Jan. 13 1917 - PRO PATRIA." The Star and Garter Home was a military convalescent home in Reading, England, where wounded soldiers were cared for during the war. The Violet Day Fund was a charitable organization that raised funds for the wounded soldiers during the war. The violet was chosen as the symbol of the fund due to its association with the royal family and its ability to bloom in even the harshest conditions, symbolizing hope and resilience. This commemorative ware is a significant historical artifact, providing a glimpse into the past and the sacrifices made during the First World War. The pot is a beautiful and poignant reminder of the courage and resilience of those who lived through this period in history.
