Framed Print of The Civil Defence Stands down. 1945. Cardiff. South Wales

The Civil Defence Stands down. 1945. Cardiff. South Wales.
Civil Defence members acted to make living in war time Britain as safe as possible. Organising evacuations, rescue, help in many forms and organising shelter when needed.
The British Civil Defence was quite late in being started, in 1935, and they were rapidly closed down well before the end of the 2nd world war. The Fire Guard regulations were relaxed on 7th September 1944, and part time members of the National fire Service were stood down on 1st February 1945. Orders were issued on 25th April 1945 that the civil defence organisations across the UK should be wound down, and 2nd May 1945 was chosen as the date for this.
Picture shows the scene in South Wales, a ceremony to end Civil Defence. The headquarters for the Welsh Civil Defence was in Cardiff. With this, Mirrorpix will suggest Cardiff as the location for this picture.
