Leslie Huckfield MP for Nuneaton, bearded and condsidered by many colleagues to have been

Leslie Huckfield MP for Nuneaton, bearded and condsidered by many colleagues to have been one of the snappyist dressers in the House in the early 1970s. He is seen here wearing a white denim suit with a blue cotton shirt and blue silk tie. The MP had answered an advertisment that said " Progressive M.P. sought by Jeans firm for deformalisation project". Mr Huckfield answered the ad and discovered that the jeans firm wanted an MP to wear a white denim jean suit in the House so he could report back to them on how it felt and how his work was affected if at all. 3rd July 1972 *

EDITORS COMMENTS
Leslie Huckfield MP for Nuneaton, known for his impeccable style and fashion-forward choices, stands out in this print from the early 1970s. With a well-groomed beard adding to his charismatic appeal, Leslie dons a striking white denim suit paired with a vibrant blue cotton shirt and silk tie. His outfit choice was no ordinary sartorial decision but rather an intriguing experiment initiated by a renowned jeans company seeking to challenge formal attire norms. Intrigued by their advertisement calling for a 'Progressive M. P. ', Leslie eagerly responded and soon found himself at the forefront of a deformalisation project. The jeans firm requested him to wear their unique white denim jean suit within the hallowed halls of the House of Commons. Tasked with reporting back on how it felt and whether it impacted his work in any way, Leslie embraced this unconventional opportunity with enthusiasm. As captured in this moment frozen in time on July 3rd, 1972*, Leslie appears both happy and confident as he waves outside the Palace of Westminster. His attache case firmly held in one hand symbolizes his dedication to public service while showcasing his ability to seamlessly blend contemporary fashion trends into traditional political settings. This photograph by Eric Harlow not only immortalizes Leslie's role as one of the snappiest dressers among his parliamentary colleagues but also serves as a reminder that even within serious arenas like politics, innovation can be found where least expected.
