Framed Prints From Memory Lane
Framed Print of One of Durhams oldest pubs looks out of place, in a street dating back to medieval
One of Durhams oldest pubs looks out of place, in a street dating back to medieval times. The Buffalo Head was bulldozed to allow student accommodation to be built behind it. The old building went, but the planners insisted it should rise again on the same site, Saddler Street, with the same bricks and stone and looking just as it did before. Now the facade is back, and it has led to complains from Durham conservation watchdogs, the City of Durham Trust. Their secretary said they have protested to the council that the second floor windows look completely out of place. They don t look right, and we are certain they weren t there before. But like lots of people we just can t remember the exact details before the demolition people moved in'. Durham, August 1976. © Mirrorpix
