EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to 1935, when the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) sought to entice travelers to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Scotland. The poster, skillfully crafted by artist Frank Newbould, showcases a panoramic view of the Highlands with Fort William standing proudly in the foreground. Using large blocks of flat color, Newbould's artwork captures the essence and grandeur of this picturesque region. Measuring an impressive 1016 mm x 1270 mm, this print transports us to a time when rail travel was not only practical but also an opportunity for adventure and discovery. As we gaze upon this masterpiece, we can almost feel ourselves being whisked away on a train journey through these majestic peaks and mountains. Frank Newbould's talent extended far beyond his work for LNER; he also lent his artistic skills to other prominent railway companies such as Great Western Railway (GWR), Orient Line, and Belgian Railways. His ability to capture the spirit of each destination through bold colors and striking compositions made him a sought-after artist in the golden age of travel posters. Preserved by National Railway Museum's Pictorial Collection, this print serves as both a testament to Newbould's artistic prowess and a reminder of Scotland's timeless allure. It invites us to embark on our own imaginary voyage through its rugged landscapes while igniting our curiosity about what lies beyond those distant peaks.
