EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph, taken by Charles E. Brown in 1964 at Lasham, England, showcases the Let L-13 Blanik 326 (274) glider soaring through the clear blue sky. The Royal Air Force Gliding and Soaring Association (RAFGSA) was the proud owner of this iconic postwar civil aircraft. The Let L-13 Blanik, a Czechoslovakian design, was widely used for glider training throughout Europe after World War II. Its sleek, streamlined shape and distinctive tail make it instantly recognizable among glider enthusiasts. The Blanik 326 series, in particular, was known for its durability and ease of handling, making it an ideal choice for training new pilots. In this image, the Blanik 326 (274) appears poised and graceful as it glides effortlessly through the air. The pilot, clad in a helmet and goggles, focuses intently on the controls, while the tow rope trails behind, connecting the glider to the tug plane that launched it into the sky. The vibrant green and red colors of the RAFGSA insignia on the wings and tail add a touch of national pride to the scene. This photograph offers a glimpse into the rich history of postwar aviation and the important role that gliding played in the development of new pilots and the preservation of flying traditions. The Let L-13 Blanik 326 remains an enduring symbol of the passion and dedication of those who took to the skies, both during and after the war.
