Fairy ring fungus (Marasmius oreades) in a grassy field. This fungus produces a characteristic ring of brown, rounded mushrooms after heavy rainfall in summer and autumn. These hold the spores ready for dispersal. For the rest of the year the fungus is concealed underground in its mycelium form.
