Framed Prints From Science Photo Library

Framed Print of SubMillimetre array telescopes

SubMillimetre Array (SMA) telescopes. Two of the eight SMA telescopes on Mauna Kea, Hawaii, USA. These six-metre diameter dishes study radiation from radio to infrared wavelengths. Data from these telescopes can be combined by interferometry to obtain images equivalent to that seen by one large telescope. The SMA studies young stars and protoplanetary discs and active regions in galaxies as well as objects in the solar system. The observatory is a joint project between the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) and the Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics of the Academia Sinica of Taiwan. Science Photo Library features Science and Medical images including photos and illustrations. © MAGRATH PHOTOGRAPHY/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY
