Richard Neville and Ann, the wife of John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury. Richard

Richard Neville and Ann, the wife of John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury.
Richard Neville 16th Earl of Warwick (1428 April 14, 1471), was also known as " Warwick the Kingmaker." Neville was the richest man in England outside the royal family, and he used his wealth and power to help depose the " Lancastrian" Henry VI in favor of the " Yorkist" Edward IV, and then later to place Henry VI back on the throne.
Warwick was the eldest son of Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury and Alice Montagu, Countess of Salisbury. His younger brother was Sir John Neville, Marquess of Montagu and for a brief time Earl of Northumberland. He married Anne de Beauchamp, the sister of Henry de Beauchamp, 1st Duke of Warwick, 14th Earl of Warwick. When the Duke died, his Earldom was inherited by the infant Anne de Beauchamp, 15th Countess of Warwick. Lady Warwick died at age five, and Neville inherited the Earldom through his wife. Thus he controlled two great earldoms, with estates throughout the English Midlands and the Welsh March

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases Richard Neville, the 16th Earl of Warwick, and Ann, the wife of John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury. Known as "Warwick the Kingmaker". Neville was a powerful figure in England during his time. With immense wealth and influence outside the royal family, he played a pivotal role in deposing Henry VI in favor of Edward IV and later restoring Henry VI to the throne. Born into nobility as the eldest son of Richard Neville, 5th Earl of Salisbury and Alice Montagu, Countess of Salisbury, Warwick's lineage granted him great prestige. His marriage to Anne de Beauchamp further solidified his position by inheriting her brother's earldom upon his death. This bestowed upon him control over two significant earldoms with vast estates across England and Wales. The print captures these influential figures at an intriguing moment in history when their actions shaped the course of English politics. It serves as a visual reminder that power dynamics were not solely confined within royal circles but extended to ambitious individuals like Warwick who sought to shape their nation's destiny. Preserved by TopFoto under Personalities collection for historical documentation rather than commercial use, this image offers us a glimpse into an era marked by political maneuvering and familial alliances that determined England's fate.
