"Enslaved: A Captivating Journey through History's Shackles" Step into the haunting world of "Enslaved, " where the echoes of human suffering reverberate across time. This captivating collection of artifacts and artworks unveils the dark chapters of our past, shedding light on the harrowing experiences endured by those held in bondage. In Flagellation, 1896 (litho), we witness a chilling depiction of punishment and control, as whips strike flesh, leaving scars that transcend generations. The Harem (colour litho) reveals a gilded prison for women, their lives confined to servitude under opulent veils. Meanwhile, The Slave of Love (litho) portrays an enslaved heart yearning for liberation amidst societal constraints. Traveling further eastward, we encounter the mesmerizing Female dancer of Constantinople; her graceful movements belie her status as a mere possession in a world dominated by power dynamics. In stark contrast stands the Female slave from Khartoum, Bongo race of Bahr el Ghazal (1882 albumen print), capturing both vulnerability and resilience etched upon her face. The Spiral carved tusks from c. 1870s (ivory) serve as poignant reminders that even nature's beauty was tainted by humanity's greed. These intricate carvings bear witness to countless lives lost or forever altered due to insatiable desires for wealth and dominance. A Rest in the Desert, 1911 (oil on canvas), offers respite within an unforgiving landscape while silently reflecting on stolen freedom and shattered dreams. Prospect of European factories at Xavier or Sabee from Marchais, 1746 (engraving) exposes how commerce fueled enslavement—a reminder that economic gain often came at great human cost. George Washington gazes solemnly in his portrait from 1780 (oil on canvas). Though revered as a founding father, his legacy is entwined with the paradox of owning enslaved individuals.
