The Griffon Vulture, scientifically known as Gyps fulvus, is a majestic bird of prey that can be found in various regions across Europe and Africa. One such place where these magnificent creatures thrive is the Monfraguee National Park, located in Extremadura, Spain. This park has been designated as a UNESCO biosphere reserve, highlighting its importance for biodiversity conservation. In Cantabria, Spain, an aerial view captures a flock of Griffon vultures scavenging on the remains of a dead pig. These birds play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance by feeding on carrion and preventing the spread of diseases. Another breathtaking sight unfolds over Los Mallos de Riglos in Huesca province, Aragon. Here we witness a Griffon vulture soaring gracefully through the sky with its impressive wingspan. These birds are masters of flight and utilize thermal updrafts to effortlessly glide through their natural habitats. March brings us to Cantabria once again when a Griffon vulture lands next to its flock along the coast. The coastal areas provide ample opportunities for these birds to find food and socialize with other members of their species. Venturing beyond Spain's borders takes us to Cevennes, France in March 2016 where an Eurasian griffon vulture is captured mid-flight. This image showcases their adaptability across different landscapes and highlights their ability to cover vast distances during migration. Delving into history reveals hand-colored lithographs from 1880 depicting various species of birds of prey including the Griffon Vulture. These illustrations serve as reminders of our fascination with nature's wonders throughout time. Traveling further east leads us to Yemen's Sana'a Province specifically Bokhur Plateau - another habitat where these remarkable creatures reside peacefully amidst rocky terrains and arid landscapes.
