Animaux-Phoques
EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Animaux-Phoques" captures the thriving colony of seals in the Bay of Somme. Taken in 2002 by Laetitia Dupuis, it showcases an adult seal gracefully swimming off the coast of Hourdel, benefiting from its status as a nature reserve. After being completely wiped out due to intensive hunting for their fur and blubber after World War II, seals slowly started returning to the Bay of Somme in the 1980s. This remarkable resurgence is a testament to the tireless efforts of Picardie-Nature Association, whose dedicated volunteers patrol both land and sea relentlessly to ensure the prosperity of this colony. The image portrays a sense of tranquility and harmony as this majestic creature navigates through pristine waters. The horizontal composition emphasizes its graceful movements while showcasing its natural habitat. Laetitia Dupuis's skillful photography highlights not only the beauty but also serves as a reminder that conservation efforts can lead to successful outcomes even when faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges. This photograph stands as a symbol of hope for endangered species worldwide and reminds us all about our responsibility towards protecting our precious wildlife. AFP (Agence France-Presse) continues to bring attention to important environmental issues through powerful visuals like this one, inspiring viewers around the globe to appreciate and preserve our planet's diverse ecosystems.
