Henry Addington Greetings Card Collection

Henry Addington was a British statesman who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1801 to 1804. He was born in London, England on 30 May 1757 and educated at St. Paul's School and Brasenose College, Oxford. He entered politics in 1784 as Member of Parliament for Devizes and held various ministerial offices under William Pitt the Younger before becoming Prime Minister in 1801. During his tenure he oversaw the Treaty of Amiens with France, which temporarily ended hostilities between Britain and France during the Napoleonic Wars. He also passed several important reforms such as the Act of Union with Ireland, which established a unified Parliament for Great Britain and Ireland, and a new Poor Law that provided relief to those unable to work due to age or infirmity. After leaving office he continued to serve in Parliament until his death on 15 February 1844 at his home in London aged 86 years old.
