EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases a late Louis XV commode, dating back to the years 1763-1770. Crafted by the French School in the 18th century, this exquisite piece stands at an impressive size of 95x147.5x56 cm and belongs to a private collection. The commode is adorned with ormolu-mounted Japanese lacquer and ebony, creating a stunning visual contrast. Its design features intricate details that reflect the opulence of the era. The eared breakfront breccia rosso e giallo marble top adds an elegant touch, complementing the overall aesthetic. Notably attributed to Bernard II or Bernard III Van Risenburgh, renowned craftsmen of their time, this masterpiece showcases their exceptional skill in lacquerwork. The lacquer itself originates from late 17th-century Japan and has been embellished with vernis martin overdecoration during its transformation into this remarkable commode. The panelled door depicts a mesmerizing Chinoiserie landscape surrounded by floral paterae and fruiting laurel swags. Further landscape panels adorn both sides of the commode while bearded bacchic masks grace its canted angles. Stamped twice BVRB for Bernard Van Risenburgh's mark along with four JME marks (Jurande des Menuisiers Ébénistes) and two M marks add historical significance to this extraordinary piece. Captured beautifully by Bridgeman Images' photographer eChristies Images, this print allows art enthusiasts worldwide to appreciate the timeless beauty and craftsmanship of this late Louis XV commode without any commercial use restrictions
