This lithograph by Day & Haghe, created in 1839, depicts Mr. Edward Spencer, a notable British balloonist of the Victorian era. Mr. Spencer's legacy is intertwined with tragedy, as he was one of the participants in the ill-fated parachute experiment conducted by Mr. Robert Cocking on July 24th, 1837 at Vauxhall Gardens.
