Close-up of Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) swimming in a pond on a Crocodile farm in the Western Cape Province, South Africa

The Nile crocodile (Crocodylus niloticus) is an African crocodile and the second largest extant reptile in the world, after the saltwater crocodile. The Nile crocodile is quite widespread throughout sub-saharan Africa, occurring mostly in the central, eastern, southern and some western parts of the continent and lives in different types of aquatic environments such as lakes, rivers and marshlands. Although capable of living in saline environments, this species is rarely found in saltwater, but occasionally inhabits deltas and brackish lakes. The range of this species once stretched northward throughout the Nile, as far north as the Nile delta. On average the Nile crocodile is between 4.1 metres (13 ft) to 5 metres (16 ft), weighing around 410 kg (900 lb). However, specimens measuring 6.1 metres (20 ft) in length and weighing 900 kg (2, 000 lb) are not uncommon. They have thick scaly skin that is heavily armored

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the mesmerizing beauty of a Nile crocodile swimming gracefully in a serene pond on a Crocodile farm in the Western Cape Province, South Africa. The close-up shot allows us to appreciate the intricate details of this magnificent creature. The Nile crocodile, scientifically known as Crocodylus niloticus, is an African reptile and holds the title for being the second largest extant reptile globally, only surpassed by its cousin, the saltwater crocodile. Found predominantly in sub-Saharan Africa, these crocodiles inhabit various aquatic environments such as lakes, rivers, and marshlands. While they can survive in saline habitats, they are rarely spotted in saltwater areas but occasionally venture into deltas and brackish lakes. Once populating even as far north as the Nile delta, these impressive creatures have an average length ranging from 4.1 meters (13 ft) to 5 meters (16 ft), weighing around 410 kg (900 lb). However, it is not uncommon to find specimens measuring up to 6.1 meters (20 ft) long and weighing a staggering 900 kg (2,000 lb). Their thick scaly skin provides them with robust armor-like protection. Through Dewald Kirsten's lens at Fine Art Storehouse comes this remarkable portrayal of nature's marvels - showcasing both strength and grace embodied within one frame. This print serves as a testament to the awe-inspiring wonders that exist within our natural world.
