Cuban Mambises (insurgents) wearing straw hats are under the command of insurgent Cuban Lt. Colonel Tomas, and are dressed in sailor uniforms provided by Captain Bowman H. McCalla, USN, force commander and captain of the U.S.S. Marblehead.
