Seated next to him is his gracious wife, Elisabeth of Bavaria (1876-1965), the Queen Consort of Belgium. To their left, we find their eldest son, Prince Charles, Count of Flanders (1903-1983), who would later become the father of the current Belgian King, Philippe. To the right of the King, we see his sister, Marie José (1906-2001), who would later become the Queen Consort of Italy. And finally, the youngest of the siblings, Leopold (1901-1983), who would eventually succeed Albert I as King Leopold III of Belgium. The family's warm expressions and close bond are evident, making this photograph a beautiful testament to their love and unity. Albert I, a passionate mountaineer and explorer, ruled Belgium from 1909 until his untimely death in 1934. His reign was marked by his commitment to modernizing the country and maintaining its neutrality during World War I.
