EDITORS COMMENTS
In this charming photograph, we see a young and playful George Henry Hubert Lascelles, later to become the 7th Earl of Harewood, in the early 1920s. The Hon. George Lascelles, as he was known before his father's death in 1947, is seen seated on a grassy mound, clad in a smock shirt and trousers, holding a ball in his hands. The smocking detail on his shirt adds a touch of elegance to his casual attire, reflecting the fashion trends of the 1920s. With a mischievous grin on his face, George appears to be deep in thought, perhaps considering his next move in a game of catch or perhaps simply enjoying the simple pleasures of childhood. Born on 7 February 1923, George was the elder son of the 6th Earl of Harewood and Princess Mary, Princess Royal, the only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. This photograph, taken circa 1926, captures a moment of innocence and joy in the life of this future earl, who would go on to serve in the Royal Navy during World War II and later become a prominent figure in British society. The image is a poignant reminder of the carefree days of childhood and the enduring bond between a father and son.
