This exquisite handfinished chromolithograph by Henry Noel Humphreys, based on an illustration by Jane Loudon from her book "Mrs. Jane Loudon's Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Perennials," published in London in 1849, showcases an enchanting collection of Gaillardia and Pyrethrum species. The vibrant image features two-coloured gaillardia (Gaillardia bicolor), also known as the Indian Blanket flower, with its distinctive red and yellow petals and dark center. Adjacent to it is the bristly gaillardia (Gaillardia aristata), characterized by its fuzzy leaves and yellow blooms. Further along, the large marsh ox-eye (Gaillardia pulchella) displays its bright orange-red petals surrounding a golden center, while the scarlet chrysanthemum (Pyrethrum carneum) boasts rich red petals and a yellow center. The bristly pyrethrum (Pyrethrum uliginosum) is depicted with its white petals and dark center, and the pellitory of Spain (Anthemis pyrethrum) adds a pop of white with its daisy-like flowers.
