EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the Swan Public House in Kelvedon Hatch, Essex, as it appeared in the 1960s. The image, taken from the left side, reveals the pub's charming facade with its distinctive signboard and brick exterior. The Swan, which was not affiliated with Seabrooke and Sons Limited at the time, was a popular local watering hole during the 1960s. As of July 2018, the Swan had undergone significant transformations. It was then known as the Dog & Partridge, a part of the Charles Wells Brewery, and had been converted into an Indian restaurant named Tamerisk. However, this photograph transports us back in time to an era when the Swan was a quintessential English pub. The reverse side of the print provides valuable historical context, detailing the trading record of the Swan from 1940 to 1961. This information adds depth to the photograph, allowing us to appreciate the pub's rich history and the role it played within the community during that time. The Swan, a cherished piece of Essex's pub heritage, continues to stand as a testament to the past, inviting us to imagine the stories and memories that were created within its walls.
