This hand-colored copperplate engraving, taken from Friedrich Johann Bertuch's Bilderbuch fur Kinder (Picture Book for Children), published in Weimar in 1798, showcases an intriguing collection of exotic deep-sea creatures. The image features four distinctly different fish species: a Red Scorpion Fish (Scorpaena scrofa, number 1), a Rat Fish (Chimaera monstrosa, number 2), a Scrawled Cowfish (Acanthostracion quadricornis, number 3), and a Broadbarred Firefish (Pterois antennata, number 4).
