EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph print showcases a grand assembly of Italian Kings from the esteemed House of Savoy, spanning from the 18th to the early 20th century. The image features, starting from the second row, King Vittorio Amedeo II (r. 1713-1721), King Carlo Emanuele III (r. 1730-1773), and King Vittorio Amedeo III (r. 1773-1796). In the first row, we find King Carlo Felice (r. 1821-1831), King Carlo Alberto (r. 1831-1849), King Umberto I (r. 1878-1900), and King Vittorio Emanuele III (r. 1900-1946). The House of Savoy, also known as Casa di Savoia, is one of Europe's oldest and most distinguished royal dynasties. The Savoyards trace their origins back to the mythical founders Romulus and Remus, who, according to legend, were raised by a she-wolf in the Italian region of Liguria. The House of Savoy rose to prominence in the late Middle Ages and ruled various territories in Italy, including the Kingdom of Sardinia, Piedmont, and Sicily. This impressive collection of portraits captures the regal elegance and historical significance of these Italian monarchs. The photograph, taken circa 1905, provides a glimpse into the rich history and grandeur of the Italian monarchy during the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. The flags of Italy and the House of Savoy are displayed prominently in the background, symbolizing the connection between these kings and their Italian heritage.
