This photograph showcases Royal Air Force (RAF) SEPECAT Jaguar GR.1 XX742 (msn S.39, call sign 14) in its prime at RAF Leuchars during the 1970s. The Jaguar GR.1, a two-seat, twin-engine ground-attack and reconnaissance aircraft, was developed jointly by the British and French under the SEPECAT (Société Européenne de Production de l'Avion de Combat Et d'Appui Tactique) partnership. XX742 was first flown on October 21, 1974, and delivered to the RAF on November 14 of the same year. The aircraft served with distinction in the RAF inventory until its unfortunate demise on April 19, 1983, when it suffered a loss of control. At the time of this photograph, XX742 was assigned to 226 Operational Conversion Unit, where it underwent training and preparation for operational duties.
