The traditional annual " Duck Race" took place in the village of Grove, Nr. Wantage, Berks. This competition has been held for the last 200 years to celebrate the end of the village fete or feast week. Competitors wearing only shorts and shoes at a blast on a whistle race through the waist deep water of the village stream in pursuit of a duck, which has been thrown into the water. The event is organized by the local football club who make a collection from the sightseers. Winner of one of the races, David Beal, 14, a local boy holds up the duck which he reached first.
