Over 40 years ago, when Mrs Joyce Giddins, now aged 62, was close to death suffering from a perforated ulcer, surgeon Mr. Vincent Nesfield saved her life.
Mrs. Giddins, from South Lynn Drive, Eastbourne, has saved up and bought a lifeboat, and named the boat OVincent Nesfield".

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures a heartwarming story of resilience, gratitude, and the power of giving back. Over four decades ago, Mrs. Joyce Giddins found herself on the brink of death due to a perforated ulcer. However, her life was saved by the skilled hands of surgeon Mr. Vincent Nesfield. Now aged 62, Mrs. Giddins has dedicated her life to expressing her immense gratitude. In an extraordinary act of kindness and determination, she managed to save up £11,000 through jumble sales and competitions. With this impressive donation in hand, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) granted her permission to name a lifeboat after her savior - Mr. Vincent Nesfield. The photograph showcases Mrs. Joyce Giddons standing proudly beside the Oakley class relief lifeboat named "OVincent Nesfield". Her eyes gleam with admiration as she gazes upon this vessel that symbolizes not only her own survival but also pays tribute to the man who gave her a second chance at life. This image serves as a reminder that even in our darkest moments, there is always hope for brighter days ahead – and sometimes it's through acts of selflessness that we find purpose and healing. It is truly inspiring how one woman's journey from near-death experience led to such an incredible display of generosity towards an organization committed to saving lives at sea.
