The Royal Visit by the Prince and Princess of Wales, Grampound Road, Cornwall. 15th July 1903

EDITORS COMMENTS
. In this print from the Royal Cornwall Museum archives, we are transported back to a momentous day in history - the royal visit of the Prince and Princess of Wales to Grampound Road, Cornwall on July 15th, 1903. The image captures the excitement and anticipation that filled the air as the royal couple embarked on their journey. Standing tall in an open carriage adorned with flags representing both royalty and Great Western Railway (GWR), they wave graciously to a jubilant crowd gathered at the station. This visit marked a significant occasion for Cornwall as it coincided with the dedication of Truro Cathedral's nave. The Prince of Wales, who would later become King George V, along with his beloved Princess Mary had arrived from Paddington aboard their majestic royal train. Their destination was Tregothnan estate in St Michael Penkivel where they were hosted by the esteemed Boscawen family. With its rich history dating back to 1334 when it became home to generations of Boscawens, Tregothnan stood proudly near an older mansion rebuilt by Edward Boscawen - fourth Viscount and First Earl of Falmouth. Preserved through time by an unknown photographer's lens, this remarkable snapshot offers us a glimpse into a momentous chapter in Cornwall's heritage. It serves as a testament to both our enduring fascination
