EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the impressive Amphibious Armoured Vehicle LVT-5, also known as the USMC Landing Vehicle, Tracked, Personnel-5 (LVTP-5), proudly displayed near the entrance of Kaneohe Marine Corp Air Station on Oahu. Serving as a replacement for its World War II predecessors, the LVTP-5 entered production in 1952 and revolutionized marine operations. Measuring an imposing 356 inches in length, 140.5 inches in width, and standing at an impressive height of 103 inches, this robust vehicle boasted exceptional capabilities both on land and water. Powered by a Continental LV-1790-1 engine generating a staggering 704 horsepower through its twelve cylinders, it could reach speeds of up to 30 mph on land and an admirable 6.8 mph when traversing aquatic environments. The versatility of the LVTP-5 was further enhanced by its bow ramp that could be lowered to facilitate easy loading of personnel or cargo. With a capacity to accommodate up to 34 troops during land missions or carry up to 25 individuals during water operations, this formidable machine played a crucial role in military logistics. Photographed against the backdrop of Hawaii's scenic beauty under clear skies during daylight hours, this image captures every detail of this remarkable armored vehicle from a side view perspective. The absence of people allows viewers to focus solely on appreciating the intricate design and sheer power emanating from this battle tank-like carrier. Michael Wood's skillful photography brings out vibrant colors while maintaining clarity throughout this stunning image that encapsulates not only transportation but also combat readiness with elements such as mine sweepers visible along its exterior. This photograph is undoubtedly a testament to the enduring legacy and significance of amphibious vehicles within military operations worldwide.
