As her acting improved, her name was changed to Ann and, in 1936, she moved to Warner Bros. where she matured into a leading star. Warner Bros. dropped her in 1948, but Howard Hawks cast her opposite Cary Grant in I Was a Male War Bride (1949) and she continued to make films into the 1950s, retiring from the big screen before the end of the decade
