Born in Paris to Jacques Necker, a renowned French statesman and financier, De Stael was destined for greatness. However, her life was marked by unhappiness due to her ill-fated marriage to Erik Magnus Stael von Holstein, the Swedish ambassador to France. Despite this setback, she found solace in numerous affairs throughout her lifetime.
