EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite 17th century painting is a portrait of Christina, Queen of Sweden, also known as Kristina Augusta Wasa or Kristina of Sweden. The portrait was created by the renowned French artist Pierre Signac in the Baroque era. The queen is depicted in a head and shoulders composition, adorned in the grandeur of her royal status. She wears an intricately designed pearl necklace, known as the Gulden Scepter, which was a symbol of her sovereignty. The pearls cascade down her chest, adding a touch of elegance and opulence to the painting. Her dark, curly hair is styled in an elaborate updo, framing her regal face. The painting is a miniature masterpiece, executed in watercolor on parchment. Christina, born in 1626, was the daughter of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden and Queen Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg. She ascended to the throne at the age of six, making her the first female monarch of Sweden. The portrait is now housed in the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, Sweden, where it is a cherished piece of heritage art and a testament to the rich history of the Swedish monarchy.
