EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the elegant Grand Duchess Vera Constantinovna of Russia, captured sometime between 1861 and 1865. As the beloved daughter of Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich and his wife, Grand Duchess Alexandra Iosifovna, Vera's regal lineage is evident in her graceful demeanor. In this portrait, a young Vera sits serenely while holding a delicate toy doll, exuding an air of innocence and charm. Her fashionable attire reflects the refined taste of Russian royalty during the 19th century. The monochrome aesthetic adds a timeless quality to the image, emphasizing both its historical significance and artistic value. Despite her privileged upbringing, tragedy would later befall Vera when she married Duke Eugen of Wurttemberg in 1874. Sadly, their union was cut short by his untimely death in a duel less than three years later. Devastated by this loss, she chose never to remarry. Preserved within the esteemed collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive in Krasnogorsk, this photograph offers us a glimpse into an era defined by opulence and tradition. It serves as a poignant reminder not only of Vera's personal story but also of Russia's rich royal heritage embodied by figures like herself. As we admire this exquisite piece from Heritage Images' fine art collection, let us appreciate its historical significance while honoring its intended use for non-commercial purposes only
