EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning 18th century print depicts the family tree of Hedvig Eleonora, Queen of Sweden, created by the renowned Swedish artist Eric Utterhielm. The intricately designed tree spans multiple generations, connecting Hedvig Eleonora to her ancestors and descendants. At the center of the tree stands Hedvig Eleonora (1636-1715), daughter of Elector Albert III Achilles of Brandenburg and his wife, Anna of Denmark and Norway. She is shown with her royal title, "Queen of Sweden," beneath her name. Branches of the tree extend outwards, connecting Hedvig Eleonora to her ancestors, including her paternal grandparents, Elector Bogislaw X of Pomerania and Duchess Hedwig Catherine of Brandenburg. The tree also traces her maternal lineage to King Christian III of Denmark and Norway and his wife, Dorothea of Saxony. The tree also connects Hedvig Eleonora to her children, including her son, Christian I of Denmark, and her daughter, Dorothea of Brandenburg. Other notable figures in the tree include her uncles, Christian I and Frederick I of Denmark, as well as her cousin, Dietrich Count of Oldenburg. The Baroque-era print is filled with cherubs and cherubim, symbolizing love and divine protection. The use of color adds depth and dimension to the design, making it a beautiful and intriguing representation of the complex web of royal connections during the 17th and 18th centuries.
