Otto Von Bismarck, 1886. Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) became the Prussian prime minister in 1862. Victory against the Austrians in 1866 led to the reorganisation of Germany under the leadership of Prussia. During this time Bismarck was an influential figure, who went on to further unify German feeling during the Franco-Prussian war (1870-1871), and from being universally disliked became highly popular and the first Chancellor of the German Empire.
