Tottenham New Church, Wood Green, 1844. Creator: Unknown
Tottenham New Church, Wood Green, 1844. Church built c1844 in what is now north London. For some time it had been contemplated to make provision for the spiritual of Wood-green; but the resources of the hamlet were evidently not equal to the expense of building a church. An appeal, however, was made to the parish generally: contributions flowed in, many of them anonymously; and these, aided by a grant by the Incorporated Society, has enabled the committee to meet the cost of the church.... The architects were Scott and Moffat. From " Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol I

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the Tottenham New Church in Wood Green, London, circa 1844. The church was a testament to the collective effort of the community, as it was built through generous contributions from both parishioners and anonymous donors. With limited resources available in the hamlet at that time, constructing a church seemed like an insurmountable task. However, thanks to the support received and a grant from the Incorporated Society, the committee overseeing this project successfully met all financial requirements. The architects responsible for this magnificent structure were Scott and Moffat. Their expertise is evident in every detail of this Victorian-era architectural marvel. This engraving originally appeared in "Illustrated London News" in 1844, capturing not only the physical beauty of Tottenham New Church but also its significance as a symbol of faith and spirituality. As we gaze upon this image today, we are transported back to a bygone era where religion played an integral role in shaping communities. The landscape surrounding the church adds to its charm; nestled amidst nature's embrace stands this beacon of hope for worshippers residing in Wood Green. Preserved by Heritage Images with utmost care and respect for history, this print allows us to appreciate both Britain's rich architectural heritage and its enduring commitment to Christianity throughout centuries past.
