Before the first flight over Mount Everest, 1933 (c1937). The Everest mail being handed to the pilot of the Westland Wallace aircraft by Colonel PT Etherton. The mail contained letters to King George V, the Prince of Wales and the Late Lady Houston. On 3 April 1933 Scottish airmen Douglas Douglas-Hamilton, Marquis of Clydesdale, and Flight Lieutenant David McIntyre became the first aviators to fly over Mount Everest.
