EDITORS COMMENTS
On the historic day of King George VI's coronation on May 12, 1937, in London, the grand procession made its way from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey. The Mall, adorned with an impressive array of standards and banners, became the stage for this royal spectacle. The procession began with the King's coach, followed closely by the Standard of England, which took pride of place among all London's designs for decorations. Riding behind the coach were the King's brothers, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent, as well as the Earl of Harwood, Lord Louis Mountbatten, and the Earl of Athlone, all serving as personal aides-de-camp to His Majesty. Sir Philip Game could be seen on the right side of the coach, while the two Field Marshals, the Earl of Cavan and Sir William Birdwood, proudly displayed their white feathers just behind the Standard. The crowds gathered along the streets, eager to witness this momentous event in British history. The King's coronation was a significant moment for the monarchy and the people of Britain, marking the beginning of a new era under the leadership of King George VI and his consort, Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother). This photograph captures the grandeur and excitement of the coronation procession as it made its way through the streets of London towards Westminster Abbey.
