Friedrich was born in 1413 as the eldest son of Albrecht III, Margrave of Brandenburg, and Elisabeth of Bavaria. At the time of his appointment as Margrave of Brandenburg, he was only 14 years old. Emperor Sigismund, who ruled the Holy Roman Empire from 1410 to 1437, was an important figure in European politics during this time.
