This enchanting print by the renowned Flemish engraver, Franz Hogenberg, captures the historic Theological Debate at the Conference of Poissy in France, which took place from September 9 to 26, 1561. Organized by Catherine de Medici, the mother of King Charles IX of France, this conference aimed to bring an end to the Wars of Religion that had been ravaging the country since the 1550s. The intriguing scene inside the grand interior of the conference hall is filled with a group of intense discussions between Catholic prelates and Protestant ministers.
