This evocative photograph captures the Bakers Arms pub in West Ham, London, as it looked in the 1960s. The corner view of the pub, with its red brick facade and ornate signage, transports us back in time to an era of traditional British public houses. The Bakers Arms, run by the Savill Brothers, was a beloved local watering hole for many years, as evidenced by the trading record on the reverse of this print, which details its operation from 1939 to 1961. Sadly, the pub closed its doors in 2001 and has since been converted to residential use. This photograph, taken in 1960, offers a precious snapshot of a bygone era, when the local pub was the heart of the community, a place where friends gathered to share stories, laughter, and a pint or two.
