The Partridge Cochin Cock, scientifically known as Gallus gallus domesticus, was a popular exhibit at poultry shows during the late 19th century. This particular specimen, with its vibrant partridge plumage and distinctive Dorking-style comb, won first prizes at both the Birmingham Exhibition in 1870 and the Kendal Show in 1871. The image is based on an illustration by J.W. Ludlow, taken from Lewis Wright's The Illustrated Book of Poultry, published by Cassell in London in 1890.
