Jigsaw Puzzles from Mary Evans Picture Library
Shodfriars Hall, South Street, Boston, Lincolnshire
Shodfriars Hall, South Street, Boston, Lincolnshire - despite appearances, little is actually left of the original structure following major restoration in 1874. It was also at this time that the building was given its name, being sited next to Shod Friars Lane. The original building, probably 15th-century, was of the highest standard and would seem on the evidence of the continuous ground-floor arcade to have been a guildhall Date: 1905

EDITORS COMMENTS
Shodfriars Hall, located on South Street in Boston, Lincolnshire, may appear to be a well-preserved 15th-century Tudor building in this vintage print from 1905. However, despite its charming half-timbered facade and intricate arcade design, little of the original structure remains following a major restoration in 1874.
During this restoration process, the building was given its current name due to its proximity to Shod Friars Lane. The hall was likely originally constructed as a guildhall and would have been of the highest standard for its time.
The architectural details captured in this image showcase the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into creating such a grand structure. From the timber-framed walls to the ornate carvings adorning the exterior, every aspect of Shodfriars Hall speaks to a bygone era of skilled artisans and meticulous design.
As we gaze upon this snapshot from over a century ago, we are reminded of the rich history and heritage that can be found within even seemingly ordinary buildings. Shodfriars Hall stands as a testament to the enduring beauty of architectural marvels from centuries past.
