EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph, a recently born Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) calf swims alongside its mother in the crystal-clear waters of Oltremare Lagoon in Riccione, Italy. The pregnancy lasted an impressive 54 weeks, and the male calf was born on July 2, 2010, at 8:02 am. Within just 2 and a half hours of entering the world, the newborn began to take its mother's milk, feeding at an average of two to three times per hour. At birth, the calf weighed roughly 16 kg and measured 120cm in length. The proud mother, named Blue, is a 14-year-old female who was born in Delphinarium Rimini, Italy, in 1996. Blue's devoted partner, Micha, is a 25-year-old male who hails from Cuba and has been in Italy since 1989. This loving pair has created a beautiful bond as they nurture their newborn in the safety and comfort of their aquatic home. Bottlenose Dolphins are widely distributed throughout the world's warm and temperate waters. These highly social and intelligent marine mammals are known for their playful and affectionate nature, making them a beloved sight for visitors to aquariums and marine parks. This heartwarming image captures the essence of motherly love and the strong bond between a mother and her newborn calf.
